Heijastuksia / Reflections
Risto Salonen's `Reflections' is made of glass and aluminium. A column consisting of glass plates is set between polished aluminium ailerons. An essential effect is created by lighting which enhances the sculpture's structure and, reflecting from the surfaces, their opacity. ¿Reflections' belongs to the trend originating in the sixties which utilized kinetic impressions and abstract natural phenomena related to vision. The piece is located in the southern end of the Merihaka district's waterfront. Originally, it was a part of a larger plan including plants and a street cafe. The plan was not realised, however, after the sculpture was erected.
The work of art belongs to the collection of HAM Helsinki Art Museum.
