Sigurd Steniuksen hauta / Sigurd Stenius' grave

Sigurd Steniuksen puisto, Munkkiniemi • Helsinki • Artist Tuntematon/Okänd/Unknown
Published 1969

Sigurd Stenius (1879-1969) and his wife rest in a grave surrounded by lush flowers and placed on a small mound in the park in the southernmost tip of Munkkiniemi. His status and importance to the Munkkiniemi district is explained by a memorial stone with the text: "Till Sigurd Stenius minne grundare av Munksnäs och Hoplax församlingar. Hoplax kommun samt Haga köping iniativtagare till Munksnäs folk- och samskolor. Sigurd Steniuksen muistoksi Munkkiniemen ja Huopalahden seurakuntien Huopalahden kunnan sekä Haagan kauppalan perustajan Munkkiniemen kansa- ja yhteiskoulujen aloitteentekijä." (To the memory of Sigurd Stenius, the founder of the Munkkiniemi and Huopalahti parishes, the municipalities of Huopalahti and Haaga and the instigator of the Munkkiniemi primary and secondary schools.)

The stone is made of granite. The work doesn't belong to the collections of the Helsinki Art Museum.
