Despite this, his influence has spread world-wide through his art and social media. Ai’s art relates to the history and the current situation in China. Ai questions authorities and values. A defender of freedom of speech, he expresses critical views that are otherwise silenced by Chinese authorities. From architecture to music, Ai Weiwei has worked with a wide range of mediums. This exhibition presents a selection of his wooden sculptures and installations, often using antique furniture and building parts from old temples as materials. The show features 25 works from 1985 to the present. Ai Weiwei @ Helsinki is the artist’s first solo exhibition in Finland. The exhibition is realised by HAM in collaboration with Ai Weiwei Studio. The curators of the exhibition are Ai Weiwei together with Erja Pusa and Heli Harni / HAM.
