Space for New Art offers – engaging both body and mind – captivating encounters with art and artists. The first open call focused on exhibition proposals that enliven the art experience through performative and audience-engaging methods.
Launching the new space is the KOKIMO collective’s Tablescape, an an immersive, performative artwork designed to be seen, heard, and felt in the body. Twenty participants at a time gather around a shared dinner table for an experience that engages both the senses and the mind. Through sound, light, moving image, and vibration, the performance awakens a theatre of unfolding associations within the dinner guests.
The work reflects on humanity’s inseparable entanglement with nature, the environment, and ecosystems. The duration is approximately 20 minutes, with each performance beginning on the hour. There are 20 seats, one of which is accessible. The performance is spoken in Finnish. Translations into Swedish and English are available on the menu placed on the table.
