The Roe

The Roe was donated to the City of Helsinki by director Mikko Penttinen in 1957. Matti Haupt’s (1912-1999) bronze piece is a delicate and realistic sculpture of an alert roe. It is 1,15 metres high and stands on a granite pedestal. The sculpture has also been called The Bambi.
Matti Haupt was born in St. Petersburg and studied in Finland in 1928-1933. He also studied in Italy in 193 -1939. Haupt was awarded the Pro Finlandia Medal in 1950.
The work belongs to the City of Helsinki’s art collection, which is managed and curated by HAM.
