Alkunäytös/ The Prelude

Artist Kain Tapper

, Helsinki

Kain Tapper has made an extraordinary career in Finnish sculpture. His work, derived from organic natural forms and ornamented by chisel marks, shows the influence of expressive art. ‘The Prelude’ is located in the square by the main entrance to the Finnish National Opera. It consists of six parts: three geometrical forms and their imaginary shadows. Actual shadows never coincide completely with the ‘artificial’ ones, highlighting the humour and illusion hidden in the work. Creating such worlds, independent of the observable reality, has always been the privilege of artists.

‘The Prelude’ is made of granite. The work doesn’t belong to the City of Helsinki’s art collection, which is managed by HAM.
