Artist Veikko Myller

, Helsinki

Multitalented Tapio Rautavaara (1915-1979) was popular and famous both as a performing artist and a successful athlete. His mellow, sentimental songs were extremely popular in their time and have become Finnish evergreens. Tapio Rautavaara won the gold medal in the javelin at the 1948 London Olympics and many other top placements in international javelin competitions. He was also a member of the team that took the 1958 World Champion in archery. The memorial is located in the centre of Helsinki’s Oulunkylä district, where Rautavaara spent a good part of his life.

The work belongs to the collections of the Helsinki Art Museum.
