Lähestyminen / The Approaching

Artist Taru Mäntynen

, Helsinki

Taru Mäntynen’s materials are bronze and concrete. In ‘The Approaching’, the roughness of the figures resembles a stuccoed surface. The impression of movement in the work is created by the dynamic composition; the figures seem to float towards each other. The work gives the cautious and subtle atmosphere of an awakening and delicate sexuality a beautiful treatment.

The piece is cast in bronze and it was erected in the courtyard of the Parliament building in 1981. It is 2.1 metres high.

The work doesn’t belong to the collections of the Helsinki Art Museum.
