Artist Marjatta Kekki

Keinulaudankuja 4, Helsinki

Marjatta Kekki’s (b. 1966) work on the façade of Kontula metro station was completed in summer 2003. Disembodied and translucent, the aniline lips glow on the glass end of the station spanning nearly the entire wall. The artist has chosen the material and mounting technique of her work to suit the architectural qualities of the site. The work provides a warm, sensual and good-humoured counterpoint to the ascetic and matter-of-fact appearance of the building. The work is on premises of Helsinki City Transport and was funded from the Helsinki City Art Museum appropriations for public artworks.
