Lukusali/ The Reading room

Artist Kari Juva

, Helsinki

The sculpture, located in front of the Töölö library, comprises two stylized female figures. The work’s realism is the source of its humour, and in the library’s reading room this realism becomes flesh. Kari Juva has been praised for the work’s plasticity and the combination of movement with the massive volumes. The sculpture is cast in bronze and it rests on a black granite pedestal. It was unveiled in 1972. The work belongs to the collections of the Helsinki Art Museum.
