Tesseraktin varjo / The Shadow of Tessaract

Artist Håkan Simberg

, Helsinki

The tesseract (hypercube) in geometry, is the 4-dimensional analog of the 3-dimensional cube. The Shadow of Tessaract was intended to acknowledge the former amusement area at Kulosaari and the pioneer work of the Brändö Villastad association. The association was founded in 1907 and initiated the building of the residential area of Kulosaari, a district in Helsinki.

The residential association commissioned the mathematical steel sculpture on the Relander rock and it was inaugurated on Kulosaari Day in 2000.

The work doesn’t belong to the collections of the Helsinki Art Museum.
