Artist Erkki Toukolehto

Akseli Toivosen kenttä, Käpylä, Helsinki

Erkki Toukolehto (1902-1962) sculpted the work depicting a hurt athlete in 1937, and it was placed in its present location in 1950. It is also known as `The Injured’ or `The Hurt Athlete’. The work is realistic and heroic, seeking to comply with the traditional way Classical sculpture has depicted a vanquished but muscular soldier or an athlete exhausted in competition.

The work belongs to the collections of the Helsinki Art Museum.
