Be inspired by Leena Luostarinen’s art and dive into the fascinating world of oil painting!
On this short course, we will explore traditional oil painting and its fascinating techniques. The course will start with a tour of Leena Luostarinen’s exhibition ‘Misfit’, where we will soak up inspiration and create drafts for our own pieces in the exhibition space itself. From these drafts, we will progress stage by stage to a finished painting, learning as we go about colour mixing, building shades of colour, and painting in layers. Over the duration of the course, we will each produce 1–2 carefully crafted paintings on canvas.
We will be painting with water-mixable oil paints that do not require strong solvents and are almost odourless.
Visual Artist Rauha Aaltonen will be leading the course.
Aaltonen is a Helsinki-based painter and ceramic artist who is currently studying for a master’s degree in art at Aalto University, where she is specialising in art education. She has extensive experience working as an artist and teaching art, and works in particular with oil paints, where she explores an interest in the depth and layering of colour.
