PLAY – Stars of Media Art
In the past few decades, media art has developed into a natural element of the field of visual art. The works by twelve internationally acclaimed media artists featured in the PLAY exhibition demonstrate the variety the genre has grown to embrace.

Apart from visuality, media art also grips the viewer with the power of motion, sound, duration and narrativity. Some of the featured works immerse us physically, others invite us in subtle ways to meditate, observe human behaviour, solve a riddle – or laugh together.

All works in the exhibition were selected by Jorma Saarikko, a technician and pioneer of audiovisual presentation technology. In a career spanning 30 years, he has developed technical solutions for countless media artists in Finland and abroad. He has collaborated closely with all artists featured in the exhibition, their common goal being that by making presentation technology as functional and inconspicuous as possible, all attention would be centred on the work itself.
Artists featured in the exhibition are Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Kjersti G. Andvig, Kari Cavén, Jordi Colomer, Sebastian Diaz Morales, A K Dolven, Marcellvs L, Aernout Mik, Tony Oursler, Charles Sandison, Fiona Tan and Magnus Wallin.
