Kuvasto All the Songs of the Sea Sirpa Hynninen Piväkoti Tuorinniemi, Agnetankuja 4, 00810 Helsinki Indoor Sculpture All the Songs of the Sea by Sirpa Hynninen (b. 1963, Jäppilä) is an installation consisting of several parts. The main component is a braid made of resin and artificial fibre that rises to the height of a door. A second component consists of white ceramic balls mounted on the corridor wall near the ceiling. The third piece is a hollow globe about one metre in diameter. Made of polyester resin and transparent foil, it glows pink and metallic high up in the corridor. The recurring basic shape, a sphere, links the three components into a single whole. The work was inspired by the sea and space: the large, glowing sphere could be a planet or a UFO, and the small spheres are like droplets or foam on the crest of a wave. The soft braid symbolises the watchful gaze of a mother. The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum. At map
