Kuvasto Bird World Eija Keskinen Päiväkoti Ruskeasuo, Paraistentie 9, 00280 Helsinki Indoor Sculpture Eija Keskinen’s (b. 1968, Tampere) Bird World, a colourful series of works on animal themes, is mounted on two floors at the Ruskeasuo Daycare Centre. “Considering a work for the new Ruskeasuo Daycare Centre, my thoughts instantly went to nature. I thought about the noble trees growing in nearby parks and all the animals busy among the hedges. Small birds were on my mind throughout the process, and large winged creatures too. It was clear to me that animals on the walls would be accompanied by plants. The animals in my work are real, identifiable animals. Most of them are faceless, however, because I feel that makes them say more to the viewer and perhaps different things at different times as well.” Works in the installation include Strawberry Land, a piece that resembles a drop-curtain; Mushroom Family and Ducks; Jumping Hare; Two Diamonds; and Place for Kissy-Kiss. Punatulkkuväriympyrä features all three primary colours, with the secondary colours resting in between. Under the stairs in the lobby, you will find Flying Fish and Three Diamonds and Four Flying Fish in Outline. Most of the animals are drawn directly on the wall with coloured pencils. Some of the drawings are framed. Safety decals for the glass walls and doors were also produced based on the drawings. The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum. At map
