Cool Tussock and Pink Nature

Kirsi Kaulanen

Haartmanin sairaala, Haartmaninkatu 4, 00290 Helsinki

Indoor Sculpture

Kirsi Kaulanen (b. 1969, Helsinki) has created a pair of sculptures, Cool Tussock and Pink Nature, for the light wells in Haartman Hospital. The materials and forms of the works and the light filtering through them establish an airy, lightweight mood. Unfolding freely through space, Cool Tussock is a sculpture landscape that can be likened to a cluster moss, lichen or nest. It is made of hexagonal pieces of plywood. Inside the components are spiral ornaments that are exploded into three dimensions with copper wires. Pink Nature looks like a flower or a jellyfish. Installed near the window in the light well, it can be viewed from three directions.

The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum.
