Kuvasto Epifania De Liberace Anssi Kasitonni Stadin ammatti- ja aikuisopiston Teollisuuskadun toimipiste, Teollisuuskatu 23, 00510 Helsinki Indoor Sculpture Suspended in the air in the centre of the roofed-over yard of the building, the gigantic grand piano created by Anssi Kasitonni (b. 1978, Vilppula) seems to be descending in a shower of diamonds from above. On the piano is a shiny golden candlestick. The artist says: “The concept is based on that cartoon moment when something heavy falls to the street, usually a safe or a piano. I thought to myself, if the falling object is a piano, it might just as well be Liberace’s grand piano – which was 2.5 times more stylish than an ordinary piano.” Kasitonni’s work lends the illusion of opulence, although the piano is in fact made of bent birch plywood and the candlestick of wood and acrylic mirrors. The shower of diamonds glittering above the piano are made of transparent acrylic cut-outs of different shapes. The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum. At map
