Kuvasto Fruit Tree Jukka Lehtinen Kallion virastotalo, Toinen linja 4 A, 00530 Helsinki Indoor Sculpture A massive steel cylinder with struts rests in the entrance hall of the Kallio municipal office building. Fruit Tree by Jukka Lehtinen (b. 1962, Kuusankoski) is an installation that marries a technical structure with organic shapes. The tilting object with disks at both ends seems to be falling or swinging, while the struts appear to keep it in place. Because it creates an impression of pent-up motion and arrested fall, the work dominates the space and introduces a sense of danger. The work also includes a second part, a bunch of red shapes that resemble berries. The combination of an absurd steel structure and exaggerated natural elements make the work enigmatic and highly charged. The largest components of the work, such as the cylindrical object, struts and the flattened spheres are all made of steel. The blue components on the ceiling, where the struts are fixed, are made of laminated fibreglass. The red berries are made of polyurethane elastomer. The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum. At map
