Anne Koskinen Gerberas Anne Koskinen Degerö lågstadieskola, Linnanrakentajantie 16, 00810 Helsinki Indoor Sculpture Gerberas by Anne Koskinen (b. 1969, Helsinki) is a sculptural installation consisting of 25 flowers cast in bronze, then patinated and partly painted in oil. Around 40 centimetres tall each, the flowers are mounted on a wall in the school’s staircase. The artist took as her starting point the arrangement of objects on a two-dimensional surface, the wall. Her aim was not to create an impression of space but to establish a pattern on the wall. Using three-dimensional sculptures to create a composition on a two-dimensional surface, while trying to avoid any spatial impression, produces an inner tension in the finished work. The artist compares the deliberately decorative character of the work with the way plant motifs are presented in old tapestries and paintings. The decorative effect is enhanced by the uniformity of the flowers and their regular spacing, which is accentuated by the individual flowers of different colours pointing in different directions. The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum. At map
