It sprouts small paintings or “blooms” that, in addition to flowers, can also be castles, birds, frogs and clouds. The beanstalk itself and some of the surprises it produces were painted directly onto the wall. The 190 other motifs on the wall have been cut from aircraft plywood. According to the artist, “the work is a mysterious fairy tale plant hidden in the bowels of a modern building, sprouting from its nooks and crannies. The creeper grows in its own unpredictable way. The motifs in the paintings are ordinary: there are no scary, gendering or exclusively Finnish things in them. The idea is to offer children lots of things to discover.” The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum.
