The work is an exploration of nature in the area and the cultural diversity of its residents. It is based on the artist’s personal observations and experiences – and a fictional story of a Native American who discovered Myllypuro. In the installation, Syrjä has used pigments derived from plants she collected in the area. The colours appear in the works in small fragments of vegetal colour, and on the walls they fill large areas. The titles of the works in the installation reveal the sources of the colours: Heather Yellow; Lupine Yellow; Tansy Green; Tansy and Hickory; Birch Yellow and Oriole; Birch, Tansy, Lupine and Heather. The series also includes the works Process and Indian Summer. The works are made on paper, wood and glass with a variety of techniques, including stone lithography, etching and serigraphy. In addition to the plant pigments, the works also include elements such as stitching. The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum. At map
