Kaisa Salmi Kutosten kaltsit Kaisa Salmi Jakomäentie 6, 00770 Helsinki Indoor Sculpture Artist Kaisa Salmi (b. 1968, Helsinki) gathered material for her community artwork Kutosten kaltsit during autumn 2017 and spring 2018 in Jakomäki. She interviewed locals and recorded their stories about rocky Jakomäki Hill. The word kutoset (“sixes”) in the title refers to the apartment blocks at nearby Jakomäentie 6, some of which were demolished to make way for new buildings in 2015. The first part of the project culminated in a party, Kutosten kaltsit – performanssibileet, celebrated in Jakomäki on 28 April 2018. The performance included a poetic tale comprised of stories about the hill and a musical piece written by Noona Salmi with lyrics based on local stories. Dance artist and choreographer Alpo Aaltokoski created a dance piece for the occasion with children from the Jakomäki daycare centre. The audience was treated to soup prepared by chef Andreas Patenge. Kaisa Salmi later integrated photos of the celebration, local stories and Noora Salmi’s composition into her video Kutosen kaltsit. The work was selected for implementation in an open call for community art projects announced in spring 2017 and was produced as part of HAM’s It’s Raining Art in Jakomäki! project. The work belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum. At map
