Toisissa tiloissa collective: Rhizome, 2020–2023. Photo: HAM/Viljami Annanolli Rhizome Artist Toisissa tiloissa collective Tehtaankatu Primary School, Tehtaankatu 15-17, 00140 Helsinki Indoor Sculpture Limited access: the work is available to view for the users of the premises only. Rhizome is based on a series of experiential and physical workshops organized for schoolchildren by Toisissa tiloissa collective between 2020 and 2023. The workshops explore the concept of rhizome from various perspectives and themes, such as mycelium, the internet, electricity grids and language formation, introducing pupils to non-hierarchical modes of thinking, learning and organization. During the workshops, the participants are co-developing a new learning praxis for the entire school that can be further explored by future generations of learners. Through collective and bodily exercises, the participants are introduced to modes of existence that are foreign to humans. Visiting “other spaces” momentarily liberates the participants from the confines of the human body and the human realm of experience. The project concept, video documentation, documentary photos and new learning praxis co-developed with the pupils will be accessioned to the City of Helsinki’s art collection, which is managed and curated by HAM.
