The Singing Tree of Nightingale

Artist Anne Siirtola

Satakieli Daycare Centre, Von Daehnin katu 19, 00790 Helsinki

Indoor Sculpture

Limited access: the work is available to view for the users of the premises only.

The Singing Tree of Nightingale by Anne Siirtola (b. 1967) is based on children’s drawings, paintings and texts. In spring and summer 2013, Siirtola held several workshops in the daycare centre, using the material that emerged to create motifs for her work. The main shape of the work is a tree made of steel. The motifs were transferred onto the steel and enamelled. The work includes a three-dimensional element: a nightingale crafted from fabric sitting on a branch.

The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum.
