Viva!

Sakari Marila

Klaneettitie 15, 00420 Helsinki

Indoor Sculpture

Sakari Marila’s (b. 1945, Ilmajoki) stained glass painting Viva! is mounted on the ceiling of the Kanneltalo cultural centre. The colourful abstract composition consists of sixty glass panes of the same dimensions but all patterned differently. The lively rhythm of the dynamic composition is offset by the harmony of the colours. The title, Viva!, is a musical reference; the word means “lively”. The work is 24 metres long and 3.6 metres wide.

The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum.
