Kuvasto Water Sketches (II) Rita Jokiranta Musik- och kulturskolan Sandels, Topeliuksenkatu 2, 00260 Helsinki Indoor Sculpture Rita Jokiranta chose water as the theme of her installation Water Sketches (II). The work consists of the stage curtain in the auditorium and a triptych of three photographs in the Sandels Cultural Centre. The pair of curtains in the auditorium feature prints of a digitally enhanced photograph of ripples on water. The black-and-white water theme complements the auditorium’s other elements and materials: wood and rock. The curtain is 6 metres tall and 13 metres wide. The photographic triptych is mounted in the auditorium foyer. The photographs at right and left reiterate in grey tones the water motif in the stage curtain. As well, the central image depicts water and reflections, but the colour is warm, with glowing purple and orange hues arising from the dark water. The surface of the triptych reflects lights and the architecture of the building, adding another layer to the work. The height of the triptych is 60 centimetres, and its total length is 250 centimetres. The work was produced under the Percent for Art programme, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum. At map
