The subject is derived from Finnish folk poetry. The base of the fountain is red granite and the sculpture itself is bronze. Running dogs and birds are depicted in relief around the rim of the pool. There is a sense of great power about the mermaid as she forces the monster under her will. The work doesn’t belong to the City of Helsinki’s art collection, which is managed by HAM. Read more..
