HAM is looking for a Senior Technician

19.8.2026

HAM Helsinki Art Museum is one of the most significant art museums in Finland and the Nordic region. Looking boldly towards the future HAM strives to provide meaningful experiences for its audience through all its activities.

HAM has an extensive international exhibition program and is also responsible for the curation and production of the Helsinki Biennial. HAM manages the City of Helsinki’s art collection of more than 10000 artworks, including its public art collection. The museum commissions new public artworks and acquires both Finnish and international contemporary art. HAM also serves as the regional art museum for Uusimaa. HAM is a foundation-based organisation and part of the City of Helsinki Group.

We are now looking for a new colleague to join our team:

Senior Technician

Permanent, full-time position. Starting date: October 2026

In this role, you work at the heart of HAM’s exhibition production, with a particular focus on productions involving contemporary and modern art. You help translate artistic intentions into technical reality by working closely with artists, understanding their creative process, and finding solutions that serve the art and HAM’s audiences.

You are part of the Technical Productions team, collaborating with technicians, conservators and registrars, as well as working closely with curators, artists and external partners across HAM’s international programme, including the Helsinki Biennial.

Beyond your own hands-on work, you help plan how productions are staffed and scheduled, and you lead freelance technicians brought in during busy periods.

About you

You have a genuine understanding of the creative process and know-how to build trust with artists. You are technically confident and resourceful, you find solutions where others see obstacles, and you handle every artwork with the care it deserves.

You take ownership of your work from planning through installation, and you communicate clearly with artists, colleagues and external partners alike. You raise issues early and propose solutions rather than waiting for directions.

You ensure that complex productions are implemented with precision, care and respect for both artistic vision and audience security.

You handle the intensity of installation periods with steadiness and professionalism.

We Expect

  • Several years of experience in exhibition production or technical production in a museum or other art institution context
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with international artists in a production setting
  • Solid art handling skills, including secure handling and packing of artworks / collection pieces
  • Ability to manage multiple parallel timelines with accuracy
  • Experience contributing to production scheduling and resourcing
  • Experience coordinating or guiding freelance technicians during production peaks
  • Strong written and spoken English

We Consider an Advantage

  • Proficiency in SketchUp or Rhino or other 3D modelling software
  • Knowledge of AV systems in artwork context
  • Basic knowledge of lighting design
  • Finnish language skills

We Offer You

  • A meaningful role at the core of contemporary exhibitions, working closely with inspiring artistic content.
  • A professional environment where you can grow your competences through responsibility and real-world production challenges
  • Lunch, commuting and culture/sports benefits
  • Occupational healthcare services at general practitioner level
  • Flexible working hours in a role primarily based on-site

Base salary: 3345,69 €/month

Working hours: 36:15 h/week

The selected candidate must pass a limited security clearance vetting (suppea turvallisuusselvitys).

Our Values

Our work is guided by four core principles:

Art – Art is the starting point of everything we do.

Audience Focus – We design our activities with audiences in mind.

Responsibility – We act consciously and proactively in response to the challenges of our time.

Internationality – An international perspective shapes our work and our understanding of the world.
