© Image: Mikko Karvinen Another Reality Mikko Karvinen Laakavuoren ala-aste, Jänkäpolku 1, 00970 Helsinki Indoor Sculpture Mikko Karvinen’s installation Another Reality, with its nine 30-cm tall male figures walking upside down, was originally mounted on the ceiling of the Mellunmäki Metro Station. When the station was renovated in 2009, the work was moved to the entrance hall of the nearby Laakavuori Primary School. The number of figures was reduced to eight, and instead of the ceiling they were installed on a wall running several storeys high. When the light shines from below, the silhouettes of the figures, made of cast industrial rubber, are projected onto the ceiling. The original work was developed by Karvinen from his winning entry in an open competition organised by the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2003–2004. The work in the metro station was part of the Neighbourhood Project organised by the Helsinki City Economic and Planning Centre. The work belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum. At map
