The public was invited to submit proposals for surprises to the agency, as long as the recipient was someone either living or otherwise active in Jakomäki. The idea was to encourage locals to consider what things or inhabitants in their neighbourhood were worthy of attention or even celebration. Ten of the submissions were selected for implementation, and the surprises were arranged with the submitters. The suggested surprises were both big and small. A student wanted to surprise someone with a wall-climbing session as thanks for being their sole friend the previous year. A weary mother dreaming of a trip to Paris received a moment of respite: a visit to the Air de Paris exhibition at HAM and dinner in a French restaurant. Volunteers operating a used goods recycling service in Jakomäki also got a surprise one day: coffee and cake at work with live music by an accordionist. Kuoppala’s work was selected for implementation in an open call for community art projects announced in spring 2017 and was produced as part of HAM’s It’s Raining Art in Jakomäki! project. The work belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum. At map
