The piece was donated to the city of Helsinki by Kesko Oy in 1962. It was temporarily located in front of the Kesko Oy head offices on Kanavakatu, Katajanokka from where it was transferred to the Korkeasaari Zoo and placed in front of the café built in 1957. The piece was transferred to the Eira park summer 2000.

In 1932-33 Matti Haupt (1912-1999) studied under Wäinö Aaltonen and in 1937-39 under Marino Marini in Italy. The artist’s works in Helsinki include The Roe in the Ensipuistikko park and Against the Raging Sea on the facade of the Insurance Company Ilmarinen (Eteläranta 8, 00130 Helsinki).

The work belongs to the collections of the Helsinki Art Museum.
