Swedish artist Jacob Dahlgren’s (b. 1970, Stockholm) pink steel sculpture Early One Morning, Eternity Sculpture meanders through Capellanaukio Square in Kalasatama. The work is ten metres in diameter and about four metres in height.

Jacob Dahlgren wants to create urban spaces that provide an opportunity for relaxation and play. Inviting passers-by to sit on its lower levels, Early One Morning, Eternity Sculpture is a kind of meeting place, although climbing is forbidden.

According to the artist, it is like the game where you draw a figure with a single line without lifting the pen from the paper. “Its appearance changes depending on which direction you look at it from. It is like a phrase written in longhand and in a completely new language,” he says.

The work was produced under the Percent for Art scheme as part of the art programme for the Kalasatama district, and it belongs to the collection of the City of Helsinki, managed by HAM Helsinki Art Museum.
